Michaela van der Vyver

Co-Founder & Lead Equine Program Director

Michaela brings a lifelong passion for horses and a deep understanding of equine behavior to Thistle’s Promise. She is dedicated to creating meaningful, safe, and confidence-building interactions between each child and their horse.

Michaela has been involved with horses for most of her life, beginning her riding and competitive career at the young age of 6. By 14, she moved to the United States to attend a competitive equine boarding school, where she further developed her skills and continued competing at a higher level. Throughout her riding career, she has competed across multiple disciplines, including cross-country, show jumping, hunters, and dressage.

Over the years, Michaela has gained extensive hands-on experience in horse care, training, and understanding equine behavior. She has worked with horses of varying temperaments and training levels, allowing her to create safe, thoughtful, and individualized interactions between horse and child.

In addition to her equestrian experience, Michaela holds a degree in marketing and an MBA. Her educational background allows her to thoughtfully develop and manage Thistle’s Promise, ensuring the program is not only impactful for families but also structured for long-term success and growth.
